The Patient Journey

Your appointment begins with a health check by our nurse, followed by the placement of the IV. During the infusion, you will relax in a recliner while we monitor your vitals. Once complete, we will observe you briefly to ensure you feel well before you head home to rest and let the medicine work.

Insurance Processes

Before you begin, our team coordinates with your insurance provider for prior authorization. This process ensures your treatment is covered, but please be patient as these clinical reviews are often managed by third parties and can take several weeks to finalize before we can officially schedule your first session.  We will update you throughout the process, but if there are any concerns, please contact us.

Infusion Services at Nava Rheumatology

Overview

Infusion therapy is a specialized treatment that delivers precise medications directly into your bloodstream via an IV. In rheumatology, this method is used to bypass the digestive system or to avoid injection sites, allowing for faster and more effective management of complex autoimmune conditions by directly targeting inflammation and modify diseases, with the goal of preventing damage to organs and joints.

Prep & Day

On the day of your appointment, please arrive 15 minutes early and ensure you are well-hydrated. You should eat a normal meal and take your regular medications unless otherwise instructed. We recommend wearing comfortable layered clothing and bringing a book or tablet to occupy your time during the infusion process. We will have wifi and water available for your comfort.

Types of Treatment

Rheumatology infusion drugs are specialized IV medications designed to target specific parts of an overactive immune system, with the goal to protect your vital organs and joint health from long-term damage. Some of the medications we offer include:

  • Infliximab (Remicade) and biosimilars including Inflectra, Renflexis, and Avsola

  • Golimumab IV (Simponi Aria)

  • Rituximab (Rituxan) and biosimilars including Truxima, Ruxience, and Riabni

  • Abatacept (Orencia)

  • Tocilizumab (Actemra) and biosimilars including Tyenne

  • Belimumab (Benlysta)

  • Anifrolumab (Saphnelo)

  • Pegloticase (Krystexxa)

  • Zoledronic Acid (Reclast)

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. Your rheumatologist at Nava Rheumatology will determine the final treatment plan based on your unique health history.
